Snow and gales to give way to warm weather blast

The UK has been hit by unsettled weather over the last week with strong 70mph winds and even snow falling in some areas.

However, things are looking up towards the end of the week with the temperature rising to 13C in the south by Wednesday, reports the Metro.

According to ITV News, temperatures will be "feeling milder from midweek onwards", after a cool start.

The Met Office forecast for Monday reads: "Monday will be dry and bright for most. Rain is expected for south-western areas of England and Wales during the morning, where it will be rather cold."

From Tuesday to Thursday, the forecast in the south says it will be "bright and breezy and noticeably milder".

However, many areas, particularly in the north, will experience some wet and windy weather mid-week.

The south should enjoy the balmy end to the week, as the long-range forecast for March is mainly "unsettled".

The forecast for 10 March to 19 March suggests temperatures will be milder in the southwest, but that a cold period could see the return of snow to many parts.

It says: "An unsettled theme looks likely until the middle of March. Bands of rain will cross the UK with more showery and bright interludes probable in between. The heaviest rain is expected in western and north-western areas with wintry showers likely over higher ground. The unsettled weather could also bring windy spells with gales in exposed places.

"Temperatures are thought to be around average; perhaps milder in the southeast, but all areas could get colder as we go through the period with more of a northerly influence. This period could bring snow for a time even to lower levels in the north; with the best of the dry weather further southwest where it could feel much more settled. Overnight frosts could also feature nationwide through the middle of March."
