Heavy rain and snow to batter Britain this weekend

The current spell of unsettled weather will continue for the weekend and into next week, with heavy rain and even snow in parts of Britain, say forecasters.

The warmer temperatures and signs of spring we've seen in the past few days have all but disappeared down the drain: most of the country will be wet, windy and blustery, with possible snow in northern areas and the Scottish highlands.

A heavy band of slow-moving rain will continue to sweep Britain - and, unusually, the south will be more unsettled than the north.

The Met Office forecast for the weekend is for rain across south Wales and southern England, which will spread northwards into northern England and Wales.

And, as we get into Sunday it looks like there is some heavy rainfall on London and south east.

The Sunday to Tuesday forecast suggests it will be unsettled in most areas as well as particularly cold for many, with the possibility of more snow in the north. It will be cloudy with rain at times with a risk of frost, and hill snow in the north at times. Tuesday will start dry, but turn wet and windy later.
