TalkTalk TV Trial FAQs
What happens when I sign up to the trial?
As part of the sign up process we'll ask you to complete a simple questionnaire. Let us know how much feedback you'd like to give us (Happy to help, Like a pro or Superhero) and also which devices you watch TV on... your TV box, Android smartphone or tablet, iPad, iPhone, Chromecast or through the website. Just before the trial starts we'll email you with details on whether you need to update your apps or if it will happen automatically.
We'd like you to carry on using TalkTalk TV like you normally do. There will be a dedicated team on hand to take your feedback and we'll tell you how you can get in touch with us.
A couple of weeks into the trial we'll send you the TalkTalk TV Experience survey so you can tell us what you think of the new experience. Everyone who completes this survey will be entered into our prize draw for £100, £50 and £25 Amazon vouchers.
How do I watch TV on my TalkTalk TV Box on the trial?
Simply leave your TalkTalk TV box connected to the internet overnight (you probably do this anyway) and we'll update the software for you. When you turn your TV on in the morning the new experience will be waiting for you. All the channels and programmes you currently subscribe to will be available to watch and you'll be able to add and remove boosts and rent and own films and TV just like you can now.
What if my box wasn't connected?
If your box isn't connected to the internet overnight it won't automatically upgrade to the new TV experience. It's really simple to upgrade your software manually and we'll tell you how to do this when the trial starts.
How do I watch through the website?
At the start of the trial we'll send you the web address of our new website. You can login using your existing email address and password you'll find all the TV and films you currently own/rent available to watch. You'll be able to rent and own films and TV just like you can now with the addition of some neat new features like pre-order and series pass.
How do I watch on my Android smartphone and tablet?
When you sign up to the trial we'll ask you for a Googlemail email address. We'll add you to our Beta trials group for our Android app. If you already have our Android app downloaded on a device, and it is set to automatically update (you can check this in Settings), then you'll get our new app when the trial launches without having to do anything.
If you don't have the app downloaded, or it doesn't automatically update, you'll simply need to go to the Google Play Store and download the TalkTalk TV app.
You can login using your existing email address and password and all the TV and films you currently rent/own will be available to watch and download. You'll be able to rent and own films and TV just like you can now with the addition of some neat new features like pre-order and series pass.
How do I watch on my iPad and iPhone?
When you sign up to the trial we'll ask you for the email address that you use to sign in to iTunes. You'll receive an email invitation to sign up to TestFlight. TestFlight is owned by Apple and it's how most mobile apps are tested. It's simple to sign up and having done so you will be able to download our new app to your iPhone or iPad.
Just like now, the TalkTalk TV app for Apple devices is a player app and does not allow you to purchase films and TV. You can login using your existing email and password and titles you've purchased will be available for you to watch and download. To purchase films and TV on your Apple device you'll need to go to our new website, see 'How do I watch through the website' above.
How do I watch on my Samsung and LG Smart TV and Xbox?
These devices are not part of our TV experience trial and there will not be any software updates available. The service will continue to work using the existing experience. As a trialist, if you use both trial (TV box, website, Android and Apple) and non-trial (Xbox, Smart TV, Windows app) devices you may experience some delay in the availability of titles you can watch syncing across devices.
For example, if you rent a film through the website, it may take up to 24 hours before you can see it in your library on your Smart TV. During this time it would be possible to purchase the same title on another device. We recommend that if you are planning to watch something on your Smart TV or Xbox, then you also purchase it on this device. Please be aware that it will be possible to buy the same title on the old experience and new experience and you will be charged twice.
