Ed Sheeran reportedly loves New Zealand so much that he enquired about citizenship to move there.

The 26-year-old singer from Suffolk spent some time in the country during his year-long break from music.

According to the Daily Star, he said: "I did ask for citizenship and I think we got an email from someone involved with that. So maybe that's going to happen. I could be a citizen."

Explaining his reasons, the Castle on the Hill singer told the newspaper: "I've always said that if a world war breaks out, the one place I would go to is New Zealand because no-one is going to be bothered to come that far to invade."

During his gap year, Ed also enjoyed trips to Japan, Australia and Iceland to see the Northern Lights.

But his trip to Iceland didn't go exactly how he planned as he missed the Aurora Borealis after accidentally burning his feet in a geyser.

"I put my foot in a boiling geyser, like a boiling pool on top of a mountain, by mistake," he said.

"It melted all the skin off my foot and then they had to put a skin graft on it. This was on my 25th birthday.

"They were like, 'Don't walk over there!' And I was like, 'Why?' Then I just slipped."

Ed said he couldn't walk for a couple of months.
