One of London's smallest detached properties has gone on the market for the first time in 50 years - for a cool £600k.

The tiny pad in upmarket Chelsea is just 290sqft and is also in need of a full renovation.

The Douglas & Gordon website description reads: "A proper Chelsea gem. Available to the market for the first time in almost 50 years, this is an utterly charming one bedroom cottage quietly situated on one of Chelsea's prettiest streets, overlooking St Luke's Gardens."

"Internally, this Freehold house is in need of complete re-modernisation and offers an incoming buyer a terrific opportunity to re-fit it to their own taste and style whether it be as a lovely house or as a private office."

Indeed, reports suggest that the house could even be worth up to £1 million when finished.

The Evening Standard reports that, at £600k, the home is already three times the average UK house price.

Speaking to ITV News, Douglas & Gordon sale manager Ed McCulloch said: "It is totally unique, a one-off. I've not seen anything in Chelsea which has a freehold and is smaller.

"It is going to suit a buyer who wants the space without the management charge of an apartment. It could be a first home or a pied-a-terre.

"Once it is done up, someone might pay as much as £1 million for it, we don't know - it is unique."
