Girl dies after being thrown from ride at amusement park in China

The horrifying moment a girl was thrown from a ride at an amusement park in China was witnessed by a crowd of visitors.

A local newspaper reported that the 13-year-old was flung from the 'Travel Through Space' ride at Chaohua Amusement Park in Fengdu county, southwest China on Friday.

In a statement on Saturday, the country's product safety regulator said an initial investigation showed her seatbelt had broken and the passenger safety bar did not fit tightly enough.

According to the BBC, she was taken to hospital after being thrown onto metal railings but later died.

Reports said the ride was inspected in December.

Mobile phone footage showed the girl flying out of the ride and falling onto the railings.

The West China Metropolis Daily reported that her parents reached a compensation agreement with the theme park for 870,000 yuan (£101,250).

China's safety regulator has asked the park to suspend all of its big rides for checks to be carried out and has ordered other attractions operating the same 'Travel Through Space' ride to immediately suspend its use for checks to be carried out.
