Suspects held over £58m airport diamond heist

Seven people have been arrested in connection with a £58 million diamond heist at Amsterdam airport.

The robbery took place at Amsterdam's Schipol Airport back in February 2005, when a gang dressed in uniforms hijacked an armoured truck in a high security area.

Sky News reports that the truck driver was forced out at gunpoint and made to lie on the ground as the thieves made their getaway.

Nobody was hurt during the incident, and the thieves managed to get away with a £35 million haul. The rest of the diamonds were found in a getaway vehicle soon after the robbery.

According to Heart, police in the Netherlands said in a statement that five men and two women, all Dutch nationals, have now been arrested in Amsterdam and Valencia in connection with the robbery.
