A stunning creature that looks a bit like a cat was discovered hiding in a spare tyre in a warehouse in Milton Keynes.

The creature, which is actually an African genet, was found in a Mercedes Benz depot, and left staff very confused as to what it was.

The animal was taken in by the Milton Keynes branch of Vets4Pets, who shared pictures of it on Facebook.

According to the BBC, practice manager, Alison Sweeting, said: "We had no idea if he was a wild animal, or whether he might be from overseas.

"Later that evening a man came forward from Brighton and said it was his pet."

The MK Citizen reports that she added: "The owners were very emotional and highly delighted to have found their pet. The genet had been missing for 18 days.

"We are all at a loss as to how the animal arrived in a depot 120 miles away almost three weeks after disappearing."

The genet had actually been microchipped, but it took some time for vets to discover it as it had migrated to the end of her tail.

Owner Kyle Watson said the genet, who's called Kamarla and is two years old, is settling nicely back at home.

According to Wikipedia, genets are slender cat-like animals with a long body, a long ringed tail, large ears, a pointed muzzle and partly retractile claws.

All genet species are indigenous to Africa. The common genet was introduced to southwestern Europe during historical times. It was brought from Maghreb to the Mediterranean region as a domestic animal about 1000 to 1500 years ago, and from there spread to southern France and Italy.

In Africa, it is found in wooded habitats north of the Sahara, in savanna zones south of the Sahara to southern Africa and along the coast of Arabia, Yemen and Oman.
