Swearing is a sign of honesty, says study

If you're trying to be more honest, then you might need to increase in vocabulary - but not the kind your grandmother would approve of.

A new study, called 'Frankly, we do give a damn: The relationship between profanity and honesty, suggests that the causes for why we swear and tell the truth are often the same.

In a three-part study of 276 adults, participants were first surveyed on their swearing habits.

Then 73,000 Facebook profiles were analysed for curse words in status updates.

They then looked at the profanity and integrity indexes across each state.

It turns out that people cursed more when they're truthfully portraying how they felt, while people who lied needed to use a lot more words to cover up their lies, as the video above explains.
