Woman dragged 60ft along train platform as hand trapped in door

The woman was rushing to catch a train at Hayes and Harlington station in west London when she became stuck in the closing door, forcing her to run alongside it as it moved.

The 60 year-old passenger was dragged for about 19 metres before managing to pull her hand free from the 1.10pm train to London Paddington.

She then lost her footing and fell onto the platform, suffering injuries to her head, hand and back.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch carried out an investigation into last year's incident and published a series of recommendations in June.

A train driver, Stephen Murdoch, has appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court charged with endangering the safety of a person on the railway through wilful omission or neglect.
