Living with a Suzuki Vitara: Second report

My Suzuki Vitara is getting on in its life, about 8,000 miles on. That meant that this month it was due its first service.

This can sometimes be a bit of a headache when it comes to fitting in a trip to the garage around everything else that goes on in life. Fortunately, we were able to use Sparshatts Suzuki in Fareham, which is no more than 10 minutes from the office.
The automotive industry is changing, and receiving a video review of your service is becoming an industry standard. This time, for the Vitara we were given a guided tour around the car and reassured that everything was absolutely fine.

It's a fantastic addition for customers who wouldn't normally get more than a cursory glance around their car with a technician, or sometimes no more than a chat in reception. In this case, we received a CitNOW video from Sparshatts, talking us through the tyre, brake and suspension wear – all of which were well within the limits allowed.

We've seen some videos previously where technicians will demonstrate with a guide or digital reader the tread depth of tyres, but in this case the mechanic wrote the figure in chalk on the tyres, so there was no opportunity for confusion.

It might seem like a simple thing to do, and some may even argue what benefit does it add for dealers, but from a customer perspective it's an invaluable addition. If, like us, you would be quite happy taking a look at your brake disc wear or tyres and understand what had been referred to, then it's a convenient record of what has been seen.

However, it's easy to forget that many car owners don't know what they're looking for. Videos like these give them a far better understanding and build trust between them and the garage.

The good news, too, is that the Vitara still feels as fresh as when it first joined us. It's been a lot of miles over a short period, but it doesn't seem to have had an adverse effect on the soft-roader.
