Police car rolls into another vehicle after handbrake blunder

The moment a distracted police officer forgot to put the handbrake on their squad car was caught on camera by the vehicle it rolled into.

Dashcam footage shows the two police officers parking up in Newcastle city centre at 1.30am yesterday. The pair are seemingly distracted by something that is happening out of sight of the camera and the driver forgets to put the handbrake on as they get out.

The Volvo estate slowly starts to roll backwards through a junction, narrowly missing a pedestrian crossing the road.

The driver of the vehicle with the dashcam is left to helplessly watch the patrol car as it rolls in his direction. Shortly before the inevitable impact, the driver begins beeping his horn, but there's nothing that he can do to stop the unmanned car.

Northumbria Police have yet to comment on the incident.
