Ben Davis took to the skies over England on Thursday for a 215-mile journey, which lasted two hours and 23 minutes, to deliver the special message.

The greeting was captured by flight path website Flightradar24 and shows the letters above Northampton and Buckingham.

Davis tweeted a photo of the flight path and wrote: "Hi, here's a early Happy NY to you all. I did it yesterday, 215miles & 2hr23mins flying, cheers Ben".

Speaking to CNN, he said: "It's my first ever attempt and I'm pleased with it," Davis said. "If I'd made a mistake when almost done, I'd have had to scrap it and start over."

The pilot, who has been flying for fun for ten years, flew in his Evektor EV97.
