What are the deadlines for returning Christmas presents?

The chances are that you'll have received at least one unwanted Christmas present this year.

If it's something perishable or personalised, you probably won't be able to take it back. But if you are planning on returning an item for a refund, make sure you don't miss the deadline.

Here's a list of some major stores' returns policy.

What's the worst Christmas present you have ever received?

Amazon
Amazon has extended its returns period for the Christmas season. Items sent out between 1 November and 31 December can be returned until midnight on 31 January, 2017.

John Lewis
John Lewis has a pretty generous returns period all year round - 90 days - so doesn't extend that at Christmas. You'll be given a voucher if you don't have the receipt.

Next
You'll have to move fast to return an item bought early to Next: you get 28 days from purchase, or until 4th January, whichever is later. A refund is given via the original payment method, and if that's a card then the card-holder will have to be present - which is likely to be a bit tricky. Otherwise, you'll get a gift card, and you'll need a receipt.

Marks & Spencer
You can return online and in-store purchases up until 15th January 2017.

Debenhams
Items purchased online or in store as gifts from Thursday 15th October 2015 can be returned up until 31st January.

Toys R Us
Purchases made on toysrus.co.uk between 2nd November and 19th December will be accepted up to 13th January 2017 for a refund. For purchases in store, though, the deadline is the usual 14 days from purchase - meaning it may already be too late.

River Island
Orders placed from 1st November, may be returned up until January 14th 2017. The exception is Boxing Day, when the store says it's just too busy.

House of Fraser
You can return items bought after 23rd October in store for an exchange or refund to a gift card, or to the store's online returns centre. You'll be given an eVoucher that can be used online until 22nd January 2017.

ASOS
Orders placed from 01 November 2016 to 24 December 2016 can be returned up until 31st January 2017.

Topshop/Topman
Any items purchased either online or in store from 1st October 2016 to 31st December 2016 can be returned any time up to the 31st January 2017.

Currys PC World
Items purchased between 2nd November and 24th December 2016 can be returned until 14th January.
