London and the South of England are likely to see the mildest weather with 16C, while even the North can look forward to a balmy Christmas Day.

According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester and Newcastle could enjoy 13C, Birmingham is forecast to be 12C and Glasgow is set for a mild 12C.

The warmest Christmas Days on record were in 1920 when temperatures reached 15.6C in Devon and 1896 in Edinburgh.

December normally sees an average of 8C in the South.

While Britons won't have to wear their thermals, the Met Office has warned of wet and windy weather.

For Christmas Eve, it says: "Rain in the Northwest to start. It'll turn cloudier, windier and milder across the UK overnight, with rain soon arriving in the North and West. Some hill snow for Scotland."

On Christmas Day, Storm Conor will bring "wet, windy and mild conditions across the UK."

Forecasters add that severe gales in Scotland will lead to colder weather with wintry showers in the Northwest later.

Boxing Day will bring blustery showers in the North but drier and brighter elsewhere. It is expected to feel colder before a mostly dry and bright Tuesday and Wednesday, with fog and frost overnight in the Southeast.
