Emily Blunt, Hugh Grant and Millie Bobby Brown among Brits with SAG Award nominations

Emily Blunt, Hugh Grant and Dev Patel are among a host of British stars who have been nominated for Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards.

Emily is nominated for best performance by an actress for her starring role as a struggling alcoholic in psychological thriller Girl On The Train.

Hugh has been recognised in the supporting actor category for his performance in comedy Florence Foster Jenkins. He will compete for the award with Dev, who was nominated for the drama Lion.

In the television categories, 12-year-old British actress Millie Bobby Brown is nominated for best performance by an actress in a drama series for Netflix drama Stranger Things.

She will compete with fellow Britons Claire Foy, who received a nod for her performance as the Queen in The Crown, and Thandie Newton for Westworld.

British actress Naomie Harris is nominated for best performance by a supporting actress in a motion picture after playing a crack addict in coming-of-age drama Moonlight.

Fellow Briton Riz Ahmed is up for best actor in a television movie or limited series for his performance in crime drama The Night Of.

In the past, SAG nominees have served as helpful predictors of who will land nominations in the four Oscar acting categories.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone both received nods for their performances in musical La La Land, which is being tipped as a favourite for Academy Award success.

Ryan will compete for the best actor gong with Andrew Garfield, who has been recognised for his portrayal of Second World War hero Desmond Doss in Mel Gibson's drama Hacksaw Ridge.

Casey Affleck (Manchester By The Sea), Viggo Mortensen (Captain Fantastic) and Denzel Washington (Fences) are also nominated in the category.

Emily and Emma will battle for the best actress award with Amy Adams for her portrayal as a linguistics expert in sci-fi drama Arrival, Natalie Portman for her performance as former US first lady Jackie Kennedy in Jackie, and Meryl Streep for Florence Foster Jenkins.
