Star Wars fans are not impressed with the eighth film's rumoured title

The official title of the forthcoming eighth Star Wars movie may have been unveiled.

Production company LucasFilm has filed a trademark to the European Union Intellectual Property Office under Star Wars: Forces of Destiny, and many have taken this to be the name of the next film.

Star Wars: Episode VIII follows on from last year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Forces of Destiny certainly sounds like it could be the next step, although perhaps slightly too similar to its predecessor.

The Rian Johnson-directed film, set for release in December 2017, will star Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Oscar Isaac and Lupita Nyong'o among many others.

Under this name filed by the company - which is now owned by Disney - there is a long list of products and services attached, including the likes of far-ranging things such as computer games software, television sets, fire-extinguishing apparatus and respirators for filtering air.

Star Wars fans have taken this to mean that the next film in the rebooted franchise will be called Forces of Destiny, too, but not everyone is happy about it.

It has been described as "weak", "corny", and one fan is praying that it's just "a crappy mobile game and not Episode 8 title".

Others have suggested that the name has been trademarked to throw people off the scent over its title.

Some keen Star Wars devotees have suggested alternative names that might be better.

It wasn't all bad, though.

Of course, this may not actually be the film's name - the likes of potential titles Tale of the Jedi Temple and The Order of the Dark Side have also been thrown into the mix.

We may have to wait just a little bit longer for the official line on this one, but until then, there is the new Star Wars off-shoot - Rogue One - which arrives in cinemas this week.
