Youth arrested in Ipswich double murder probe after death of man and teenager

Police are investigating a double murder after a teenager and a man died from suspected stab wounds.

A 17-year-old youth has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the deaths in Ipswich and he is currently in custody, Suffolk Police said.

Officers were called to reports of two stabbings within 15 minutes of each other on Thursday afternoon.

Just after 1.15pm, police were called to a stabbing at West Meadows.

Police received another call at 1.30pm reporting a male had arrived at Ipswich Hospital with suspected stab wounds.

Both of those injured - a man in his 30s and a boy in his late teens - died a short time after arriving at hospital.

They are both believed to have been stabbed at West Meadows, police said.

A Suffolk Constabulary spokeswoman said: "The incident is being treated as a double murder investigation and inquiries are under way to determine exactly what happened."

Police are appealing for witnesses to call Suffolk Police on 101 quoting CAD reference 222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

It had been reported Ipswich Hospital was in lockdown following the incident, but a spokeswoman denied this.

Ipswich Hospital tweeted: "Just to reassure patients our hospital services are running as usual this afternoon."
