Irish waiter Ben Millar was given an extremely generous tip by a customer in Houston, Texas, so he could return to his native homeland.

The 22-year-old man has told ABC News that he was working on November 19th when he spoke with a family about their travels to Ireland.

Millar recalled, "I jokingly said, 'I wish I could go back that often to see my family.'

I thought nothing of it, and we all joked after. The night went on, and I proceeded to give good service and talk to them."

However, when he went to get their signed receipt, he found that they had left him a $750 (£602) tip on a check totaling just under $123.

His pregnant girlfriend, Taryn Keith, posted an image of the receipt on Facebook; it shows that the customer, named Jeffrey, also included the message: "Hopefully, this can get you back to Ireland for the holidays."

Millar says that he intends to use the money to take her and their new baby to Ireland after the birth.

And since he never got to thank Jeffrey before he left, the Irishman is hoping the story about his kindness will reach him.
