Mel C gives her verdict on GEM's leaked track and whether they will head to Eurovision
Spice Girls' star Mel C has praised her former bandmates' new music but poured cold water on some fans' hopes they might compete in Eurovision.
New track Song For Her by Geri Horner, Emma Bunton and Mel B, known collectively as GEM, was leaked online on Wednesday and Mel C has given it her seal of approval.
She told the Press Association: "It sounds really catchy, especially that chorus, and it's lovely to hear those voices.
"I think for everybody all of our voices are so familiar, it's nice to hear them."
After the track appeared online, fans on Twitter said it sounded like a perfect song for Eurovision, but asked if the girl group might be keen on being the UK's entry, Mel said: "I'm stifling a giggle.
"The interesting thing about Eurovision here in the UK is we are a bit snobbish about it.
"I have worked a lot in Europe and they take it really seriously and it's really respected and people tweet me all the time telling me I should do Eurovison, they don't realise here in the UK we kind of laugh at it quite a lot. I don't think it's something the girls would do."
Mel C and Victoria Beckham have opted not to join in the reunion to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Spice Girls' debut album but Mel, who has just released new solo album Version Of Me, said she has not ruled out a future reunion and might be tempted to jump up on stage when she sees her friends in concert.
She said: "Personally it was right for me (not to take part) at this time.
"I had been working on the record for a couple of years before I made my decision to not do any touring with the girls and it just felt right. I enjoy working as a solo artist.
"I love the girls dearly and socially, it's still lovely to see everybody and people say 'Is it forever?' and I don't know, who knows?
"Maybe there would be something that felt more appropriate in the future but just at the moment I'm not feeling it."
That does not mean she will not be cheering the group on, though.
She said: "I would have to go! It would be so weird if I didn't. I would have to go in disguise and it would be difficult but whenever I go to see anybody play live I just want to get up with them so I might just gatecrash.
"I just love being on stage, if I go to the theatre I want to be in the show, if I see another artist I want to be in the band."
Melanie C & Magic Radio Breakfast Show host Nick Snaith will present The Magic of Christmas from the London Palladium, live on Magic Radio on Sunday from 7pm.
