Koenigsegg gives details of supercar without gearbox
Christian von Koenigsegg is the boss of the supercar company that bears his surname.
It has become renowned in the car industry for building some of the most extreme but useable performance cars in the world. Koenigsegg himself is an engineer, and his outside-the-box thinking has resulted in some fascinating car designs.
For example, on the new Regera the rear spoiler uses a clever system that catches the airflow so it can be deployed at high speed without the heavy hydraulics systems found on other cars.
But the most intriguing aspect of the car is the Direct Drive system. It removes the need for a complicated gearbox and allows the engine to work with the electric motor to drive the wheels directly.
Koenigsegg has talked before in basic terms about how it works, but now he's decided to share a lot more fascinating details about the set-up.
