Three men were on the bus - driver John Burton, 38, Simon Loveland, 39, and Thomas Tibbs, 21 - which was also seen driving around a roundabout the wrong way and jumping kerbs.

All three men pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard how the bus reached speeds of 50mph as it was chased by a police helicopter and patrol cars, causing £10,000 of damage on its way, reports the Shropshire Star.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Burton, who had 37 previous convictions, was sentenced to 14 months for theft of the bus and disqualified from driving for 13 months.

Mr Loveland, who had 31 previous convictions, was sentenced to 12 months and disqualified from driving for 18 months, while Mr Tibbs, who had one previous conviction, was jailed for six months.

The incident occurred at around 9.40pm on 31 March, but police have only just released video of the incident.

The joyriders were only stopped after police used a spiked strip stinger to burst the tyres.
