Michael Buble's Desert Island Discs re-edited over Rolex brand ambassador link
The BBC has re-edited an episode of Desert Island Discs after listeners heard castaway Michael Buble pick a Rolex watch as his luxury item - without knowing that he fronts the brand.
The 41-year-old crooner was a guest on the famous Radio 4 show on Sunday, when he spoke about his rise to fame and how he handled it "very poorly".
His connection to the watchmaker, as brand ambassador, was mentioned during the recording of the show, but edited out of the final broadcast.
The programme, hosted by Kirsty Young, has now been re-edited ahead of Friday's repeat to make the Canadian singer's connection to the company clear.
A BBC spokeswoman said: "Castaways on Desert Island Discs are given free choice of luxury item, but it would have been preferable for us to have made Michael Buble's brand ambassador role clear in the final edit.
"It is an affiliation he mentioned during the recording and we will include it in Friday's repeat of the programme."
The singer, who is married to model Luisana Lopilato, spoke on the show, in which guests pick music to take with them to a desert island, about how his quick rise to stardom came with problems.
"Fame stunts your growth," he said. "I handled it very poorly. I regret the way I treated a lot of my family and even myself.
"I was reckless with hearts. But I got my karma."
He opted for the watch as his luxury item on the desert island, saying: "I think it would be a Rolex watch. I could at least figure out what time it was and how many days I'd been there."
And for his book, he selected a self-help guide, saying: "On a desert island I would be dead within a moment."
Michael states on the Rolex website that becoming a "testimonee" for the brand "was a measuring stick as to how far I've come and how well I have done. And I have never taken it off; now I wear it in the shower with my arm out, just like my father."
