Halloween police attacked with fireworks

Police were pelted with fireworks in two separate attacks caught on video on Halloween night.

An officer narrowly avoided being hit by an explosive in Tottenham, north London, the Metropolitan Police said.

And police tweeted footage of one of their vans being pelted with a volley of fireworks in Birmingham.

The attacks came as a man died and two other people were injured after reports of a multiple stabbing in Croydon, south London.

Footage from the dashboard camera of a car being driven by neighbourhood watch group Shomrim in Tottenham showed a firework fly past a running Metropolitan Police officer.

The rocket then ricocheted and exploded next to a police car in Fladbury Road at around 9.40pm.

MPS Haringey tweeted: "Our officers responding to #ASB fireworks related call, some youths decided to aim at us instead!! No officers injured."

Shomrim said police were responding to reports of youths throwing fireworks at "unsuspecting" passers-by.

The Met Police said one youth had been detained in relation to the incident.

West Midlands Police tweeted footage of a police van repeatedly being hit by fireworks being launched from Balsall Heath Park in Birmingham.
