British mum suffers brain haemorrhage while swimming in Greece

This is the shocking moment a mum was found face down in the sea after she suffered a brain aneurysm on a dream holiday.

Katy Head, 39, was away with her husband Craig, 38, and son Leighton, 8, on the Greek island of Kos when she suddenly fell ill.

She was discovered floating face down in the water after suffering a brain bleed while she was in the sea.

This picture shows Katy lying on her front, dressed in swimming clothes and a life jacket as a man in goggles and another person reaches out towards her.

It isn't known how long she had her head in the water for.

Mr Head, who is staying in a hotel near to a hospital in Athens where his wife has been transferred to, said: "She's in a very bad way.

"She's been left with a very high pulse and blood pressure and that means there's a greater chance of damage to her heart and brain.

"If she does pull through, then she could lose her sight."

Doctors are now unsure of whether Katy will survive, or whether she will be left disabled if she does pull through.

Mr Head added: "I'm in absolute turmoil. One minute, we were in the sea, on a luxury holiday having the time of our lives.

"Me and Leighton were in the sea swimming and, as we headed back to the boat, Katy complained of a pain in her neck. Seconds later, she was face down in the sea.

"I swam over and became more concerned. Something was not right. I reached for her leg and she was lifeless and limp.

"I pulled her life vest and lifted her head from the water. Her lips were blue and I yelled for help.

"The captain of the boat dived in and we dragged her body up to the boat and started to do basic first-aid. She was breathing, just, but experiencing what I would describe as a seizure.

"The Kos ambulance service was out on another call and we were told it would take an hour to get to her.

"She drifted in and out of consciousness, screaming about her head and she had difficulty seeing. She was clearly seriously ill and we needed to act as fast as possible."

The family are desperately raising money for Katy's rehab and for Craig to stay in Greece by his beloved wife's bedside.

He said: "It's terrible. We just need some help. It's a devastating situation. People have donated already and I cannot thank them enough."
