Passengers were left slightly bemused when a live crab was spotted taking a train journey from Manchester Piccadilly to Cheltenham Spa.

It's not clear whether the crab was travelling for business or pleasure, but perhaps the inner-city crustacean had heard all about the beauty of the Cotswolds' countryside and wanted to see it for himself.

One passenger spotted the crab wandering through the carriage and shared the sighting on Twitter:

Speaking to the Metro, another onlooker said: "When we stopped at Cheltenham some people picked it up and put it on the platform, and told one of the conductors.

"They managed to find a bag to put it in and he took it up to the office. I've no clue how it got on!'

The Lad Bible reports that Cross Country Trains said the crab was escorted off because it had tried to "sidestep" paying. *Ba-dum-tshh*.
