Cars queue at petrol station as Hurricane Matthew approaches

Motorists in Florida have rushed to fill up with fuel after hurricane warnings were issued in the area.

Dozens of cars were filmed queuing at one petrol station late on Tuesday night amid fears of an evacuation, as Hurricane Matthew approached.
The National Hurricane Center gave warnings that extended from Golden Beach in Miami-Dade County through to Broward County. A warning was also issued from Palm Beach County north to Brevard County and in the area of Lake Okeechobee.

Much to the relief of residents in those areas, the hurricane was downgraded to a category three storm early yesterday. However, wind speeds were expected to increase again as the storm moved north-west.

Latest reports today suggest the storm has been re-upgraded to category four, and a number of evacuation orders have been issued along the east coast of the US.
