Demi Lovato is taking a break, saying she 'was not meant for this business'
Demi Lovato has announced that she is taking a break from the limelight.
The singer and actress told fans on social media that she will take time off next year, saying she was "not meant for this business and the media".
The 24-year-old revealed she was excited about stepping back.
When a fan asked about her decision and whether she would return, Demi replied that she didn't know as it "doesn't feel worth it anymore".
Demi battled substance abuse, self-harming, an eating disorder and depression before ending up in rehab in 2010, and has been outspoken about Internet trolls and the need to promote a positive body image for young fans.
The star came under fire earlier this year after sharing a video on Snapchat of her mother joking about the Zika virus.
Her mum Dianna Hart was heard saying in the clip: "Everybody down in Rio gonna get the Zika virus."
Demi could be heard laughing in the background.
She later tweeted her apologies.
