Passenger bitten dozens of times by bed bugs on BA flight

A British man has spoken of being bitten more than 100 times on a British Airways flight and how the airline offered him just £50 as compensation.

Paul Standerwick, 36, was travelling to America for a family holiday with his wife and two sons when he moved seats to be next to his son so the pair could watch the landing by the window.

Speaking to ITV News, he said: "It wasn't until after we landed, actually, that someone tapped me on the shoulder and said the people sitting in the seats we moved to were moved on after they complained about bed bugs."

He said that he thought nothing of it at the time until he reached his hotel and "these horrible, itchy bites started to appear".

Mr Standerwick added: "They got really infected. Lots of pus. They were everywhere. On my neck, my back, shoulders and legs."

After contacting the airline, he said he was offered a £50 voucher.

Sharing photos of the bites on Twitter, Paul wrote: "BA #bedbugs left scars. £50 voucher - really!!?? Had these all over my body and legs!"

Mr Standerwick, from Sutton, south London, told the Daily Mirror: "I know mistakes happen but you expect a premium service from British Airways - and they haven't even apologised."

A BA spokesman said: "We have said sorry to our customers for their experience and appreciate it must have been upsetting."

They added: "Our customer relations has been in contact with the Standerwick family and have offered a gesture of goodwill."
