How to get the best value out of your holiday

Going on holiday is a real treat and something that most people look forward to throughout the year.

But the problem is that they can often also be one of your biggest annual spends.

Luckily there are a few ways you can cut costs and make the most of your time off.

Download maps in advance

Don't let yourself get caught out by pricey data roaming charges, download the maps you need before you go. If you have the Google Maps app you can not only download maps in advance but you can enable an offline version that means you don't even need wifi or 4G to find your way around.

Book flights on the weekend

You might not think the actual day you book flights makes any difference to price, but think again. According to new research the most expensive date to book flights is a Friday. Flights cost on average 13% than if you book on a Sunday.

Shop around for insurance

It's vital to buy travel insurance before you head off, but it's also important to have a look around to find the best deal. You should also be very specific with what it is that you want covered while you're away, this is especially important if you're planning on taking part in any extreme sports or activities.
