There are few animals who would dare to go near a crocodile, but apparently one plucky otter was completely fearless.

These images, captured at Jim Corbett National Park in India, show the courageous little otter approaching the crocodile from behind before chomping down on the seemingly unaware animal's tail.

The next photograph in the series shows the crocodile whipping its tail around, presumably to avoid the otter biting down on it again.

With its jaw fully open and razor sharp teeth on show, the reptile snakes around towards the otter, which quickly skips away, avoiding a painful encounter.

According to the Mail Online, Raminder Singh saw the bizarre encounter first hand and said: "I was expecting to see a tiger or something as we heard some distressed deer.

"But as we looked down at the river we just saw this crocodile lazing around and basking in the setting sun.

"To our amazement, an otter started to move towards it. We were anxious in case he didn't know the crocodile was there, but it certainly knew what it was doing."

Luckily it looks like both animals escaped the risky attack unharmed...
