Britain enjoyed almost record warm temperatures for September last week, but the weekend saw a return to more seasonal weather.

Last week enjoyed the hottest day of the year so far and the warmest September day in decades when the mercury rose to 34.4C in Gravesend, Kent.

This week has been noticeably cooler, and autumn officially arrives with the Autumn Equinox on Thursday. So does that mean all the warm weather is behind us? Apparently not, say some reports, which suggest there could be another mini heatwave this weekend.

According to the Mirror, another warm spell is on the way from Europe, with temperatures rising to around 21C later in the week, and hitting up to 25C by the weekend.

Hot air will reportedly be brought up from the south, creating a warm end to September and even a hot start to October.

James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather, told the Express that he believed "temperatures could exceed 30C" in parts of the south, thanks to a build of high pressure that "may also bring a very warm start to October, the second month of the meteorological autumn".
