Want to stay married? You should consider watching costs when planning your wedding.

That's right, new research shows that the less expensive your nuptials are, the better chance you have of staying hitched.

According to an Emory University study, the stress of wedding-related expenses can lead couples down a rocky road.

They say that the wedding ceremony has a large impact on whether you will get divorced or not.

The average cost of a wedding in the US is around $30,000 and research shows that even just a more expensive engagement ring can lead to the divorce court.

The study found that couples whose wedding cost more than $20,000, divorced at a rate roughly 1.6 times higher than the couples who spent between $5,000 and $10,000.

If a couple's wedding was only $1,000 or less this would be the least likely to end in divorce.

However, the study also shows the more guests that attend a couple's wedding, the lower their divorce rate.
