59 smuggled puppies found at Dublin Port

Dublin Port authorities seized 59 puppies over two nights last week.

On Wednesday evening, 14 September 2016, 54 puppies were seized at Dublin Port by the Dublin Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (DSCPA). Five puppies were also seized on Tuesday evening.

The 54 puppies were discovered in a van and the others were concealed in a horse box.

Both shipments were seized under the Pet Passport Regulations of the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013. It's not known where they came from and all the puppies were under the legal age for export.

The DSPCA said it's the seventh seizure of puppies in the last two months, bringing the total seized to 150 animals.

This current group consists of a mixture of small and medium breeds, 'designer dogs' like beagles, bichon frise and cocker spaniels, cockapoos and pugaliers.

All of the gorgeous puppies were seeking new homes and the DSPCA were inundated with offers.

They uploaded an update on Facebook on Monday to say that all the puppies had now found their forever home.

The DSPCA also took the opportunity to remind people involved in this illicit trade that failure to comply with the dog export regulations will result in seizure and prosecution.
