The world's busiest airport is the same one it has been for the past 18 years.

More than 101 million travellers passed through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in 2015.

This is a 5.5% increase on 2014 according to Airports Council International's 2015 World Traffic Report.

But why is Atlanta's airport so busy? The city is within a two hour flight of 80% of the US population and of more than 300 million people, and the airport also serves as a major connecting hub and port of entry into North America.

Head east for the second busiest airport: Beijing International. The airport saw 89.9 million passengers next year.

Dubai International Airport moved from sixth to third place in 2015.

In terms of international passengers, Dubai is world's busiest, ahead of London Heathrow.

This is all good news for the travel industry as worldwide passenger traffic jumped last year to almost two billion people.
