Our population is ageing rapidly - between 2011 and 2016 the percentage of over 50s increased dramatically.

But who exactly is going to look after our elderly?

In the UK half of 75-year-olds live on their own and two fifths say that television is their main source of company. Loneliness can lead to depression, early-onset dementia and a decline in physical health. But in China they have a solution to this problem. The over-60s can actually sue their children for neglect.

A new law has been passed in Shanghai which orders the offspring of elderly parents to provide emotional, social and financial support for their mother and father.

Those citizens that fail to do so will get a black mark on their credit record.

Stroppy teenagers watch out! Your parents could make or break your midlife crisis.
