Kim Jong-un's hotel is receiving terrible TripAdvisor reviews

Updated

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un's Pyongyang hotel is leaving tourists unimpressed, with guests of the Ryanggang Hotel taking to TripAdvisor to leave bad reviews.

The hotel, which boasts 330 rooms and a revolving restaurant on the top floor, has been labelled "dirty, cold and hideous" by visitors.

One traveller, who titled his TripAdvisor review 'Makes you realise what a horror North Korea is,' wrote: "Western prisons are more welcoming. So awful. And so much brain-washing. I really hated this hotel. No wonder so many No. Koreans want to finally get rid of the Kims and all of their stealing and repression."

Another guest said it was "old and cold" with frequent power outages, electric wiring in a poor state and bare wires coming out of the floor.

He added: "But on the plus side, there was a huge flat-screen TV with one channel: the North Korean propaganda channel, where the female narrator tries her best to sound upbeat while clips of Kim Jong Un and some fields and buildings show."

A visitor from Wirral wrote: "This hotel is shocking, my room was so bad you would think I was making it up. I promise the room's electricals were very bad. I flushed the toilet and my feet got a wash...... The beds are so hard I think the floor was more comfortable. I am trying to think of something positive to say about the Ryanggang hotel, I can't......"

One of the only pleasant reviews for the hotel is from a guest who stayed in 2012 and wrote: "It's really not that bad. I felt like it was a true North Korean experience. An hour of hot water in the morning and an hour at night. Public spaces cold but the rooms were hot with under-floor heating. No thermostat. Just open the patio door to cool down. Meals were OK. I didn't get sick from anything."
