Britain faces temperatures of over 30C next week when one of the finest September days for more than 100 years will see the UK bask in weather hotter than Miami, Ibiza and Los Angeles.

Forecasters have predicted highs of 31C on Tuesday in the south-east after temperatures will rise from low 20s this weekend to late 20s from Monday.

A Met Office spokesperson told International Business Times: "It does indeed look likely that we'll see a return to very warm weather across parts of the UK early next week. This is as a result of air being drawn north and westwards from Europe where it has been very hot recently."

The current hottest September day on record was September 13 in 1934 when 28.3C was recorded in Camden Square, London.

While Britons will want to roll out the barbecue at the start of the week, the hot weather will be followed by thundery conditions.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Met Office forecaster Emma Sharples said: "At the moment we expect the heat to persist into Wednesday or Thursday when there could be a thundery breakdown.

"The outlook of the weekend is more for unsettled weather starting in the northwest before spreading southeastwards, Sunday is looking like a better day."

Meanwhile, the best of the weather will be enjoyed in south and central England, as northern and western parts of the country should expect bursts of heavy rain.
