A zoo in America has welcomed the birth of a set of panda twins.

Lun Lun, the mother of the only giant panda twins in the States, gave birth to a second set of twins at Zoo Atlanta in Georgia this week.

The 19-year-old giant panda gave birth to twin female cubs Mei Lun and Mei Huan three years ago.

According to the BBC, the zoo will use the same cub-swapping method they used in 2013 to rotate the cubs and ensure they both receive care from their mother.

The cubs have not yet been named and if they survive, they will be Lun Lun's sixth and seventh cubs.

ITV News reports that Mei Lun and Mei Huan may be returned to China this year as all pandas born outside of China are still owned by the Chinese.

Lun Lun was artificially inseminated and the father of the cubs is Yang Yang, aged 18.

Panda pregnancies are rare in captivity and difficult to predict.
