When it comes to dealing with business internationally, it should come as no surprise that different countries have different ideas.

So what's the information that you need to know before you hop on a plane and get to your first business meeting?

1. Norway's paternity leave

In Norway new dads have no excuse not to help out with their baby. Employers give them a choice of either 26 fully paid weeks paternity leave or 36 weeks at 80% pay.

2. Finnish business meetings

While doing business outside the office may mean going to a hotel, restaurant or even the golf course, in Finland it means something a little different. You're more likely to meet in a 170 degree sauna instead of a conference room. Also, in Finland, long periods of silence in meetings is a common occurrence.

3. Greetings in Belgium

Forgo the traditional handshake for a kiss on the cheek! That's right, the Belgiums expect three kisses on the cheek as a greeting, even in business situations.

4. Japanese business card etiquette

In Japan this is one item that is regarded with utmost importance. When handing it over you should extend it fully, holding only the corner and being careful not to cover the logo. When receiving a business card you should accept it with both hands, read it thoroughly and bow.

5. Japan's happy hour

While Japanese businessmen may be rigid about protocol and long hours, when the boss says it's happy hour - look out! It's all about eating, telling jokes and singing and it's expected that one member of the team drinks so much they have to be carried home.
