Hungover customer's Facebook post helps struggling fish and chip shop

A fish and chip shop in Alberta, Canada was having a hard time getting customers through the door until a man arrived with a hangover and a hankering for a greasy breakfast.

In a post on Facebook, Colin Ross says he went to Whitbie's Fish & Chips shop after feeling a "little hung over thinking fish and chips will fix me up".

After tucking in to a hearty "halibut special", Colin looked around and noticed there weren't any other customers at the shop.

"I open the door and there is a 70-year-old man all by himself in this nice clean establishment," Colin writes. "So I ask him how's business and he said he can't even pay himself at the end of the day so that really bothered me.

"Anyone who know me I have a big heart and want people to do well – especially a 70-year-old man who has put in his time."

He continues: "So I ordered the halibut special for 23 dollars. Absolutely amazing that traditional British fish and chips – just what I needed."

Colin then praises the owner, saying that he was "a jem real classy stand up guy".

"So I ask everyone in Lethbridge to share this and go support this hard working gentleman," Ross continues. "He deserves it and makes joeys only look like child's play. Thank you Lethbridge show this man some support! That's my good deed of the day have a great day!"

Since his glowing review, things have changed at Whitbie's.

Colin later posted an update so show just how busy the shop had become since his post – bringing in hundreds of customers through the door.

The owner John McMillan said things have been looking up since Ross' visit.

"Our business has just gone right through the roof to the point where, you know, we've got people waiting an hour and a half to an hour and three quarters for their dinner," he told CBC.
