A toddler survived under a capsized boat for nearly an hour when it overturned in a Florida river late at night.

Tammy and Brian Bossard were on a family trip on a boat when it hit a power line and flipped over on Florida's Indian River.

The couple were able to grab their youngest daughter but lost their 23-month old son, Kennedy, in the dark waters.

Speaking on the phone to the emergency services, Tammy can be heard saying: "I'm in the river. Our boat crashed and I have a baby still in the water. Please God, send someone now."

In reply, the operator says: "You said the boat's completely capsized? It's upside down?"

Tammy confirms that is what has happened and tells the operator that she thinks the toddler may be under the vessel.

Miraculously Kennedy was found floating in an air pocket under the boat.

Thanks to the fast response of the emergency services, Kennedy is expected to make a full recovery.
