The Met Office has issued a 'be aware' severe weather warning for wind across Wales, the West Midlands, the east of England, south west England, and London and south east England for Saturday.

The warning reads: "A spell of unseasonably strong southwesterly winds, accompanied by heavy, blustery showers, is expected to develop across the south of the UK later on Friday. Winds will peak early on Saturday through the Bristol Channel area, before slowly transferring east across the south of England. Additionally the strongest winds will lead to large waves around exposed coastlines.

"Gusts of 40-45 mph inland, and 50 to very locally 60 mph along exposed coastlines, are expected. Please be aware that these may lead to disruption to transport, and in view of the time of the year there is increased potential for disruption to outdoor activities.

"This warning has been updated to extend the warning area into East Anglia and also Ceredigion, and include mention of potential for 60 mph along the most exposed coastlines."

The forecast for the UK for Saturday to Monday reads: "An unsettled spell of weather with rain or showers at times for most. Breezy on Saturday generally with heavy showers, and very strong winds for some south and west parts.

And for the rest of August? The Met Office forecast suggest the weather will "changeable" with a mix of bright spells and showers.

The forecast from Monday 22 Aug to Wednesday 31 August reads: "There is no strong signal for any particular weather type to dominate. Changeable conditions look likely overall, with most locations expected to have dry and bright spells, but mixed in with showers or longer spells of rain at times. Overall the temperature is likely to be around average for August."
