Man charged after police officer struck by van

A 34-year-old man has been charged after a police officer was hit by a Ford Transit.

Leicestershire Police said the officer was responding to reports of an offence in Loughborough on Sunday afternoon when he was hit near the junction of Allendale Road and Hillcrest Drive.

The male officer was taken to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre and is in a "stable condition".

Mark Courtney Johnson, of Armadale Drive, Leicester, is due before magistrates in the city charged with grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving causing injury, driving whilst disqualified and two counts of robbery.
