The body of a teenage boy missing with his friend off the Welsh coast has been found.

North Wales Police said the body was confirmed as being that of 14-year-old Yahye Mohamed, who drowned with Waseem Muflahi, 15, after going for a swim off Barmouth beach on Sunday August 7.

Police were called to Sunny Sands, in the Llanaber area of south Gwynedd, at around 11.30am on Friday after a body was discovered. Waseem remains missing.

The boys were part of a large group visiting the beach from Birmingham, on an outing reportedly organised by members of the Yemeni community.

Rescuers said the search for the boys had been stood down on Tuesday, but that coastguard officers would continue to patrol the area.

Inspector Andy McGregor, at North Wales Police, said: "Yesterday evening Yahye was identified by family members and our thoughts are very much with them at this time."

The death is not being treated as suspicious.
