We all know how strict low-cost airlines can be about being late for a flight.

But this Ryanair passenger was so determined not to miss his flight that he ran onto the runway and flagged it down.

The brave passenger, who was flying from Madrid to the Canary Islands, went through an emergency exit door, into a gangway and jumped down onto the tarmac.

Then, with two bags in tow, he chased after the plane which was preparing to leave.

This amazing moment of madness was caught on camera and the man is seen racing towards airport officials standing on the tarmac.

Astonishingly he was allowed to board the flight but upon landing he was detained, and then later released.

He hasn't got away completely with it completely however: the man will have to appear in a Gran Canaria court.

The video was posted to Facebook by someone who was working on the tarmac at the time.

Since the footage was posted on Saturday it has been views more than a million times and has attracted over 1,000 comments.
