Former model puts £600,000 converted toilet up for sale

A former public toilet is up for sale for £600,000 after a stunning conversion by a former Miss England finalist.

Charlotte Thomson, 29, paid £115,000 in April last year for the rundown block in Charlestown, Cornwall, attracted by the stunning views.

Since then, she and partner Joey Auger have transformed the 502 square foot property into a two-bed home with four-seater hot tub, underfloor heating and state-of-the-art sound system.

The physical work of converting the building will have come as quite a change for Charlotte, who was once a glamour model for the likes of Zoo and FHM. In 2007, she made it to the last 100 of Miss Great Britain, and she won FHM's High Street Honeys in 2009.

"The ground floor is an open plan living area with a wet room of shower, WC and basin with a beach pebble floor," say agents Jackson Stops.

"The skillful use of individually sourced ancient reclaimed timbers enhance the walls, and the room focuses on the stunning views and a quality concrete Stovax log burner on a slate hearth installed in one corner."

The kitchen features scratch and heat resistant Dekton worktops, with inset kidney-shaped ceramic hob and a 'chandelier' extractor fan above.

Not everything went according to plan. Charlotte's original design called for a large window at the front on the first floor.

But local councillors objected, with councillor Malcolm Neill commenting: "The plan is one bedroom upstairs and a very large glazed area on that first floor with a bath in front of that window – so when I walk my dog down the cliff path there is going to be quite a diversion!"

And in May, burglars broke in to the property, stealing tools and causing extensive damage. However, the couple pitched in and completed much of the work themselves, saying no expense has been spared.

The high price is partly due to the success of TV series Poldark, which was filmed in the historic Georgian port; since then, prices in the area have shot up.

And the couple are now cashing in in order to buy another property for renovation.

"It's a stunning beach house in Smugglers Cove Cornwall that needs entirely gutting and rebuilding, so we're really looking forward to that," Charlotte tells the Daily Mirror.

"We will have a few months off to recover before starting. That's the only reason we've decided to sell the property in Charlestown. We're definitely going to miss it - it's been a magical office for seven months."
