Driver admits causing crash which left footballer having both legs amputated

A driver has admitted causing a crash that resulted in a young footballer having his lower legs amputated.

Shaun Whiter, 27, was helping his friend Joey Abbs to change a tyre in Newmarket, Suffolk, when a Ford Focus struck their cars.

The Newmarket Town player had to have his lower legs amputated and Mr Abbs suffered a serious leg injury in the crash on July 1.

Driver Jan Adamec, 40, of Shetland Road, Haverhill, pleaded guilty to two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Cambridge Crown Court on Monday.

He is expected to be sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on September 9.
