Britons missing out on summer sun through working long hours

Updated

One in three workers is staying late in the office, meaning they are missing out on enjoying the longer summer evenings, a new study shows.

Research by online marketplace Groupon found that one in six people is working more than 12 hours a day.

Almost half of 2,000 adults surveyed said they worked through their lunch break in the summer months.

The poll also revealed that people worked longer hours in the summer than in the winter.

Just over half of those questioned said they did not spend enough time with their family or friends, although this was lower than in other countries such as Spain and Italy.

Groupon managing director Jon Wilson said: "The end of summer is approaching fast so every day this month should be treasured, especially by Brits who don't always get as much sun as other parts of Europe."
