Police in the United States are currently trying to track down a burglar who has a very unique way of getting around.

The man has broken into several homes in Manhattan, New York City, while hobbling around on crutches.

CCTV footage shows the man standing outside a building, but police sources say what you are not seeing is the delivery man ahead of him who is buzzed into the building

The burglar then piggy backs off this and walks into the building behind him.

The man is on crutches and wears a medical boot on a foot that is never seen to touch the ground.

A woman who lives in the building and has an existing problem with her own foot said: "It's scary to think that somebody is posing as living in the building with a medical condition like I have here."

Many who live in the building suspect he was using the crutches and boot as props and is counting on the kindness of strangers to help get him through the double-locked doors and bypass the buzzer system.

Last week, once he was inside the building, the man robbed residents of their valuables between 7.30am and 8pm.

The burglar hit three apartments on three different floors and took expensive jewellery and computers, including a Rolex watch and a diamond necklace.
